Seasons Zanzibar · Opening 2028Seasons Lodge opened at Pongwe in 2009. It was built from the ground up by a small team who understood the site — the way the beach faces east, the tidal rhythm of the reef, the quality of light in the early morning before the wind picks up. There was no formula. The lodge worked because the place worked, and because the people running it knew the difference between the two.
For fifteen years it remained what it was at the start: a considered operation that declined to grow beyond what the site could hold with integrity. Guests returned season after season — not for amenities, but because the place had a quality that is difficult to manufacture and easy to lose. The team stayed. The standard held.
The lodge closed in early 2026. The decision was made from a position of confidence, not necessity. The ground continues.

Seasons Zanzibar reopens in 2028.
Seasons Zanzibar reopens in 2028 — a luxury boutique hotel built on the same ground, with the same materials where they can be recovered.
The original paths, walls, and mature planting are being retained wherever the new structure allows. The scale remains deliberate: small enough to stay considered, large enough to sustain what a serious operation requires.
A beach club, a pool, professional management, and a guest experience built around the quality of the place rather than the volume of its rooms.
The construction draws from the same vocabulary as the original lodge — coral stone, local timber, deep shade, the deliberate capture of the ocean breeze. Buildings are low-rise, set within mature palms and coastal planting, oriented toward the water.
Nothing is imported that the site itself can provide.
